#What We Create: Tiffany
Tiffany is a Reading Specialist with plenty of home décor experience. As an old house owner, she has some special thoughts about home. We wanted to learn how she made staycation come true.
Here's our interview:
Can you tell us a bit about yourself?
I’m a Reading Specialist in an elementary school. I work with students who have reading difficulties. I’m a wife and mom of two girls. When I’m not working, I spend my free time with my family at the beach or boating. We really do a good job living in Florida and soaking up the sun. I was raised on the East Coast of Florida so the beach has always been a way of life for me. I also take pride in my small 1950’s home and enjoy making it feel like a staycation. We’ve remodeled every inch of it over the course of 7 years but still find new projects all the time! The outdoor space is very important to me because we spend a lot of time outside. We’ve worked hard to make our home a reflection of who we are and I enjoy inspiring others to do the same. I like to show people that small homes can be just as beautiful as any other larger home. Home should be a place that brings peace to your soul.
You've shared many posts on social media about house decor. Did you follow any style in the decorating process.
What do you think a tasteful house must have?
I’ve always loved unique thrifted pieces of vintage furniture. That’s how I got started with enjoying the process. I would buy old furniture and make it new again. I like a variety of styles. I started out leaning towards a farmhouse traditional style but more recently I’ve been moving towards a modern boho coastal look if that’s even a thing. Lol I don’t really like putting a name on it. Tasteful probably looks different to everyone. I like a timeless neutral look with subtle pops of color but I think it’s important to decorate your home based on who you are and what you like instead of following trends.
Your backyard is very beautiful! How did you make such a beautiful yard? Do you have any stories or experiences to share?
Thank you!! Well my husband is pretty talented in that area. I basically tell him my vision and he makes it come to life! Haha! We used to live on over an acre of land and spend weekends maintaining it, so it’s important to us to have a low maintenance yard to allow for more fun on the weekends. Our yard was pretty bare when we bought the home. The pool deck was a mess. There were layers of concrete and paint peeling off which would pollute the pool. So we decided to install pavers. We bought the pavers and then my husband installed them all on his own to save money. Then we decided to landscape with plants that were super low maintenance. We chose tropical plants to give that vacation vibe. Our cousin had just started up a turf business so we decided to do away with real grass. This was a true game changer because the yard was now practically maintenance free aside from some weed pulling here and there. This also helped our dog with allergies too which was a plus!
Hammocks are featured in several of your posts. How do you think the hammock has changed your yard life?
I would say dramatically because it allows me to immerse myself fully into the backyard and relax. It’s important to have a space where you can decompress after a long day. My hammock is kind of like my escape when I need to chill. I love reading there or just laying quietly while listening to the nature sounds. It’s also positioned by the fire pit so on winter nights it’s perfect for lounging with a blanket and enjoying the fire. I make use of it during all seasons of the year!
What's your idea of a perfect weekend? Will you go outdoors or stay at home?
I would say both! I’m an outdoors girl so I love a good boat day. But I like to go just for a couple hours mid morning until about 2pm so I can enjoy the afternoon at home by the pool. There’s nothing like coming home from the ocean and lounging in the backyard with food on the grill. The best of both worlds in the same day!! And of course end it with a glass of wine in the hammock at sunset!!

This is so awesome! This is the life I’ve always wanted. Work hard and enjoy life. The yard is very beautiful. Love it!
This hammock is so lovely! I want to buy one for my yard. The tassel on the hammock looks beautiful, especially when paired with the trees in the yard.
